Life can sometimes become hard to navigate; when this happens, it’s always nice to have someone to listen to and support us. If you find that you are struggling with emotions, behaviours, anxiety or having a hard time making decisions and this is interfering with your daily life, you could benefit from counselling.
In Australia the main difference is that a psychologist can diagnose a client with mental health conditions and disorders whereas a Counsellor cannot. Counsellors are trained in the use of modalities that psychologists use to help clients, and you will find counsellors will use a warmer approach to build a rapport so they can work collaboratively with their clients. The relationship is vital to making progress in counselling.

The same way you would book a session with Rob. However, Rob may need to check times that suit you and his roster to be present and focused for the call. If you call and Rob does not answer, please leave a message; he will get back to you at his earliest convenience. A booking portal on our home page is also used for booking your 30-minute Pre-Intake/Info phone call. Choose a day and time you would like your phone call, and Rob will contact you.
Rob’s phone number is 0402 356 492 if you need to call him directly.
This is the session where you and Rob have more time to get to know each other, and Rob can start working with you to set a plan for your sessions and treatment. Lots of information gathering and explaining happens in your first session. Rob will tell you about his approach to counselling, and you can also decide whether he will be a good fit for you. This is also the time when you can think about setting goals through counselling.
Unfortunately, the Medicare rebate scheme does not cover counsellors yet in Australia, and Rob cannot accept private health funds now. However, if you are referred to Rob on a Mental Health Care Plan, Rob can offer a more affordable fee of $75 per session, which aligns with the out-of-pocket fee you would usually pay a psychologist while on a Mental Health Care Plan.
Yes, all our sessions are confidential. However, there are some conditions when Rob would need to breach confidentiality, which can be found in The Australian Counselling Association’s Code of Ethics and Practice, which describes the limits of confidentiality here. https://www.theaca.net.au/documents/ACA-Code-of-Ethics-and-Practice-Ver16.pdf
Rob believes visiting you in your comfortable place aims to eliminate potential barriers to help you feel more comfortable. It will also help clients who find it hard to visit a clinic.
